THE POEM
I knelt to pray but not for long,
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.
So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,
And jumped up off my knees.
My Christian duty was now done
My soul could rest at ease.....
All day long I had no time
To spread a word of cheer
No time to speak of Christ to friends,
They'd laugh at me I'd fear.
No time, no time, too much to do,
That was my constant cry,
No time to give to souls in need
But at last the time, the time to die.
I went before the Lord,
I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands God! held a book;
It was the book of life.
God looked into his book and said
"Your name I cannot find
I once was going to write it down...
But never found the time"

EDITORIAL : Network Busy? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Fr. Cyprian Lewis SVD

When we call others from our cell phone many times we get the message ‘network busy’ or ‘the person you have called is on another call, please call after sometime’. God must be feeling the same way with us. He wants to talk to us but many times our network is busy or we are on another call. Our life has become so busy in the world; there is no time to do ‘Father’s business’. Because of the lack of awareness, many unwanted habits creep into our life and we become slaves of them.
There is a nice story which goes like this: An Arabian cloth merchant and his cozy camel were camped in a cold desert one night. The Arab had pitched his tent and was soon fast asleep. Suddenly he felt a poking of his body. It was the camel. ‘Kind master’ said the camel in a plaintive voice, ‘It is very cold outside. Please let me stick my nose inside the tent.’ The merchant grunted assent and went to sleep. The camel awoke him again. ‘I am freezing,’ the beast said, ‘please, let me put my head and forelegs inside the tent to keep them warm.’ The master sleepily consented. A third time the camel awoke him. ‘Please, let me come in completely’ he said. ‘All right,’ growled the merchant, ‘Come in and be quiet.’ The angry Arab went back to sleep and was soon awakened once more but not by the camel. It was the cold this time. He sat up, rubbed his eyes, and looked around. He found himself outside the tent. The cozy camel was snoring within, all by himself.Lent is the time of retrospection. Let us look at our past and see when God wanted to talk to us how many times our ‘network’ was busy and we missed His call. If we check our Call Log how many missed calls are there from God and how many received calls and how many dialled numbers are there which we dialled to talk to God!! Whatever it may be let us clear the log list and make resolution not to miss any call from God. There is an SMS from God to all of us: “The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: ‘Come, go down to the potter’s house, and there I will let you hear my words.’ So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was working at his wheel. The vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me: Can I not do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done? says the Lord. Just like the clay in the potter’s hand so are you in my hand, O house of Israel” (Jer: 18: 1 – 6).

My dear friends during the Lent let us allow God to rework on us and let Him make us a new vessel, as seemed good to him. Wishing you a grace filled Lenten Season.
